"HER STORY" To Be Told at LWV Presentation

Hamden-North Haven League of Women Voters will fill in fascinating gaps with Women's History Month program at the North Haven Library.

The following is a press release.

The Hamden-North Haven League of Women Voters is celebrating Women's History Month with a presentation of "HER STORY: A Timeline of the Women Who Changed America," a slideshow, by Jill S. Tietjen, Wednesday, March 28 from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the Community Room, 17 Elm Street, North Haven.

Her Story will fill in gaps in our knowledge about who shaped America. It will dazzle with women writers, artists, actors, and athletes, doctors, scientists, social and political activists, educators and inventors--a woman microbiologist's discovery led to the pasteurization of milk, a woman chemist invented the synthetic fiber, Kevlar, used to make bulletproof vests, and a woman patented the process that gives the grocery bag its square bottom. We will come away better informed about women's impact on the intellectual, social, and political development of American society.

A licensed electrical engineer, Jill Tietjen works with power plants and serves as a director on the board of Georgia Transmission Corporation. She is a well-known historian of women in science and technology. Tietjen has established and endowed national and local scholarships for women in engineering and technology and has received numerous awards from engineering, civic, and social organizations.

Jill Tietjen is listed in Who's Who in Engineering, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in Technology. She has written or co-authored five books and 75 articles. She lives in Colorado.

Her Story will be available for purchase, and the author will sign books after the presentation.

while receiving Staples Rewards does help defray the cost of supplies for the teachers, they areRead More STILL putting cash out of their own pockets! This should not be. But Kudos to the teachers who put their students above their own financial situation. The Town and parents should be footing the costs, not the teachers.
