This is taken from the blog Rabbit Slippers, which is written by Mary Ellen Crawford. Rabbit Slippers Blog can be found at this link: www.rabbitslippers.blogspot.com This post can be found at this link: http://rabbitslippers.blogspot.com/2012/10/remember-to-vote-for-animals.html
While cruising Facebook one day, I came across an organization called Connecticut Votes for the Animals. They gave an endorsement for a Congressman running for one of our Senatorial seats because of his values and history which shows he is more likely to vote for legislation which supports the welfare of animals. It did start me thinking.
An organization I found accidently through Facebook wasn't the first time I started to think about politics and animals shaping any upcoming votes. The famous story of Mitt Romney's dog named Seamus got me thinking. Some links on Seamus: http://seamus2012.com/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitt_Romney_dog_incident.
If you follow my personal Twitter account you would know my personal political leanings, but I try to keep that out of my blog (www.rabbitslippers.blogspot.com). I generally tried to keep politics out of my blog, period. I changed my mind on it for this piece though because I think it is another thing we really need to think about seriously.
If you are an animal lover and participate in social media such as Facebook, Twitter and so forth, you probably see requests from animal rescues, animal welfare organizations and the like to sign petitions, donate money, write letters to the editor or to our legislators. Another way we can definitely reach out is with our vote.
Ask yourself the question, who will most likely support your beliefs in protecting animals and their welfare- be they pets, in a zoo, in the wild or on a farm? I look at political parties or candidates and look at what they support. For example, question, "Do they support factory farms and the corporations that send out their products?" What candidates support good habitats for animals in the wild and the environment? What candidates create legislation or support companies that create GMO food and put it in food for our pets? What legislators introduced, created or supported legislation to help deter or deal with animal cruelty? What issues out there directly or indirectly affect the welfare of animals?
Researching this stuff is a lot easier nowadays compared to years ago because you can directly "google" a topic. Many of these topics affect us as well, but viewing the candidates through the eyes of our animal friends can help you in your voting decision this year and every year. It is also another reason to get out there and vote. Voting is a right that many generations have fought for to give us the power to start having a say. Each vote can make a big difference. Some elections have been won by fewer than 30 votes or even 1 or 2 votes!
So before going out to the voting booth. Take a look at their sweet little faces, whether they have fur, feathers, fins or scales, think about them and ask them who they would vote for. Help give them a voice!
And Fido speaks to the underlying sociopathic disregard for anyone who isn't a millionaire in the world of Republican leadership. Bush and Romney share a scary lack of empathy and we all suffer from that today.
I know your point, but ceteris paribas--if there is indeed other 'interesting issues' then they would , by virture of the level of interest, dominate the thread.
Paul has now written a total of 2 posts in the last 3 months, not telling me where I am wrong. Now he is going to be the guy who is above it all? And is "real" Thats fine, paul. Im all for real conversations. Argue with me on the merits--rather than trying to 'get me' at each and every turn. If you actually read Paul, what I say--Im the last person who 'toe's the party line. Yet you fault me for everything and anything. How about reading what you wrote--and actually embracing it? Paul D. (and fake identities all created by a person who profoundly hates who s/he has become. Time for a change.)
For I think the 9th time I am addressing your ridiculous post. Im sorry you cant responsibility for the inanity of it. But that comes part and parcel with Democrats. They want other people to take responsibility, while they yell bigot. I can tell you a 10th time if you need. You cant inherit powers of observation from either radiation or vocation. And when you make such absurd comments, and then talk about how other people are stupid--that simply invites commentary. Now, my aim, is unlike yours apparently. Your mission , by the 300 posts available to read, is to tell everyone that is right of center, in their political views, that they are idiots, and ridicule them. When the table is turned, as it easily is, with some of your absurdity--you dont acknolwedge it----the only absurdity that you are capable of identifying is that written by others. Whatever man..... live in your bizarre comic book state....where you are the smartest and most observant and feel as though your slams are clever ----and when someone plays the same game---spend the next week/month clicking my name and trying to get me. Is that really what you want to be about? Apparently so. Because I have yet to read any thoughtful commentary. Its all about comebacks and trying your hardest to establish that you know it all--- yet, without stating an opinion. Just via ridicule. Step up to the plate--and explain why you want 4 more years--without mentioning Romney or Bush.

Go ahead--if you are smart and know why its a good thing to elect Barack Obama, then explain. With fact, not rhetoric. Dont talk about 4.5 mio jobs in private sector, when the total job creation is 200k over 3.7 years with 6 trillion in debt issued, and 'recovering' from a deep trough. Study charts --and how deep recessions are almost always followed by vibrant recoveries. Study the chart and understand the cyclicality of economies. The housing market shot down sharply, because it shot up sharply. Check out a 10 year chart, or better yet, a 100 year chart and realize the bubble created by the Fed. And then undertand that blaming Bush is simply wrong. Markets around the world got crushed. Bush didnt influence the Icelandic, Greek, Irish etc markets. The dems want you to beleive that wars caused this mess. yet wars fought on foreign soil , --Russia, France, GB, Iraq, ---where are their mountains of debt following WW 2 etc? Just explain why Obama did that honestly no one else could have gotten done. 6 trillion debt issued---4.5 trillion deficits...and the main emphasis was adding another entitlement program. I simply dont get , why people are for this guy. I can understand women's concerns--but I happen to think thats scare tactics--as roe v wade is precedent and hard to overturn. I understand if you are gay, you have concerns about rights....but on a fiscal basis--Obama simply does not get it. And right now--that is the priority.
Every hour spent angry is 60 minutes of lost happiness. :)
1- What does "Im sorry you cant responsibility" mean? 2- Why do you think I'm a Democrat? 3- Why are you STILL talking about your inability to understand a sentence I wrote two days ago? 4- Why can't you be brief, and concise, instead of rambling on and on and on? 5- Why are you up so late at night posting on here? I suspect you may have a drinking problem. We're worried about you, Luca? 6- Why do you hate my dead Dad so much?
You Reps are so unnecessary capital letter-y! BA-ZING!!!!
When you all signed on to use this community discussion board and platform on Patch, you all agreed to the terms which includes "you agree that you will not post or transmit to other users anything that contains Content that: * is defamatory, abusive, obscene, profane or offensive; * contains “masked” profanity (e.g., F@&#)" So with this reminder, I'm sure you'll keep the comments clean... Thank you.
What a lack of vision. How sad.
They are literally...a dying breed. And this scares the bejesus out of them.
if you say it a lot , does it get more clever? The comment is strange, only because I am aware of the demographics that are being appealed to: latinos and women. You should adjust your posting, even though, by being intelligent about your observations, you would lose a chance to yell bigot. Not sure which is more important--yelling bigot and looking ignorant, or posting something on this web site that indicates an ability to have a conversation as normal people sometimes do.
Ill answer your questions 1 by 1. Im not afraid to support any of my actions , or acknowledge when they are wrong. (unlike you-- maybe because im not afraid of the stance i take. And insecure about explaining what Im for, and what Im against. --) 1- What does "Im sorry you cant responsibility" mean? = Im sorry you cant take responsibility. I left off word, 'take." I wont comment on your inability to understand typos. 2- Why do you think I'm a Democrat? Because you only criticize Republicans. Because you yell bigot. 3- Why are you STILL talking about your inability to understand a sentence I wrote two days ago? Because your game is to point out absurdity. I thought you would understand that what goes around, comes around? Is that too difficult? 4- Why can't you be brief, and concise, instead of rambling on and on and on? That is a legitimate beef. I agree with you here. 5- Why are you up so late at night posting on here? I suspect you may have a drinking problem. We're worried about you, Luca? You are not worried. I dont drink. My son is Afghanistan and that is when we speak. So im up. 6- Why do you hate my dead Dad so much? 10 times doesnt answer -the question? You may need to learn how to read a bit better. Bad question here, as Ive answered it 9 times. Im confident you know.
President Obama walked into a nightmare scenario left behind by the Bush mismanagement crew. We were hemorrhaging nearly a million jobs per month, the economy crashed and the stock market was at a disastrous low. He's turned that around in four years in spite of Republican obstruction. Did I mention that unemployment could be below 6% right now if Republicans in Congress and the Senate hadn't blocked the JOBS BILLS? Romney claims he can turn the economy around - but his claim wouldn't go into effect for 10 years, if even then. So, how does ANYONE with a brain not realize that Obama did what Romney claims he can do (without detailing the HOW) in just under 4 years?
that is so funny!
I suspect the cause may be neurological. You should get checked out. Depression runs rampant amongst senior citizens.
I saw some expressions of concern for at least one crazed individual on this thread. Let's have more.
