Aquilino L. Cassella, 73

The Hamden resident was the proud owner of Cassella's Italia Import Co. of Northford, Branford, Orange, and Hamden, which he ran with his wife and children for more than 30 years.

Aquilino L. Cassella, 73, of Shepard Ave., died Nov. 28, 2012 at his home. He was the husband of Pasqualina Fetta Cassella.

"Lou" was born in Gioia Sanitica, Prov. of Caserta, Italy, Feb. 3, 1939, son of the late Antonio and Concetta Barone Cassella, and was the proud owner of Cassella's Italia Import Co. of Northford, Branford, Orange, and Hamden, which he ran with his wife and children for more than 30 years.

He loved to travel to Italy, which he visited yearly to see his family, and spent countless hours in his garden.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Vincenzo Cassella of Hamden, daughters, Concetta Cassella Graviano and her husband, Anthony of NY, NY, Maria Cassella DiMeo and her husband, Carlo of Hamden and Laura Cassella DeMatteo and her husband, William of NY, and grandchildren, Giuliana, Alessia and Stefania DiMeo and Chiara Blu Graviano.

He was the brother of Mario Casella of Gioia, Sr. Elsa Cassella of Gallipoli and Maria Cassella of Gioia and the late Filomena, Silvio, Sr. Silveria and Carmine Cassella.

His funeral will leave Saturday at 10:15 a.m. from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 11 a.m.. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
