Biagio Anthony Anastasio, 98

He served the greater New Haven and Yale University communities for more than 50 years as one of the area's pre-eminent hair stylists.

Biagio Anthony Anastasio, 98, formerly of Hamden, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 29, 2012. He passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the Wadsworth Glen Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Middletown.

He was born Feb. 4, 1914 in New Haven, the son of the late Giovannina (Criscuolo) and Michele Anastasio. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary Landino Anastasio, who passed in 2009, his brothers Andrew, Louis, Anthony, Gerald, Dominic and Salvatore Anastasio, his sister Rose Fusco, and his son Blaise Anastasio.

After training and perfecting his craft in beauty salons in large department stores in New York and Hartford for six years, Mr. Anthony, as he was known by his clients and colleagues in the hair styling profession, went into business with his brother Jerry in 1941 on Temple Street. Other brothers Dom, Anthony and Sal were also highly respected stylists in New Haven and Fairfield.

In the early 50s, Biagio became the sole owner of Anthony, Your Hair Stylist, which he established on Whitney Avenue in New Haven. After serving the greater New Haven and Yale University communities for more than 50 years as one of the area's pre-eminent hair stylists, he retired in 1985 at the age 71.

He is survived by his daughter Jo-Anne Anastasia of Newton, MA; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jaye Anastasio of Spotsylvania, VA; his daughter-in-law, Marianne (Raccio) Anastasio of Branford; his grandsons Michael Anastasio III of Fairfax, VA and Ion Sokhos of Newton, MA; and his granddaughter and son-in-law Krista and Bruce Petitt of Fort Drum, NY.

He also had 5 great grandchildren Jack, Shawn, Ashley, Luke and Lauren and many family members and friends in the New Haven area.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in Centerville Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The IOVANNE FUNERAL HOME INC. is in care of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Luther Ridge Assisted Living at Middletown, 628 Congdon Street (West), Middletown, CT 06457 (Attn: Housing Manager).
