Frank C. Martin, Sr., 83

He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army and was the owner of the former Martin's Hilltop Grocery of New Haven and later had worked for the Department of Parks and Recreation for the City of New Haven until his retirement.

Frank C. Martin, Sr., 83, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He was the loving husband of 61 years to the late Jane Frances Meegan Martin who passed away on Oct. 12, 2012.

Mr. Martin was born in New Haven on March 4, 1929. He was the son of the late Matthew and Michalina Hvomada Martin.

Frank lived in New Haven most of his life. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army and was the owner of the former Martin's Hilltop Grocery of New Haven and later had worked for the Department of Parks and Recreation for the City of New Haven until his retirement.

He was the father of Frank C. Martin, Jr. and his wife Barbara N. Martin, the brother of Ann Martin Bourbon and the late Peter, Matthew, John, Joseph, Henry and Stanley Martin and the brother-in-law of Philip Shea and Ines Meegan Shea.

He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Elizabeth F. Martin.

His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., on Wednesday morning, Dec. 26 at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Stephen's Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
