Funeral Friday Morning for Mary Dolan Falvey

The long-time Hamden resident worked for the Board of Education and was active with the St. Rita's Ladies Guild and the Jonathan Dickerman House.

Mary Dolan Falvey of Hamden died Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Harborside Healthcare Arden House.

Mary was born in New Milford on December 8, 1920, the daughter of the late Edward J. and Margaret Hyland Dolan. A graduate of New Milford High School, class of 1939, she attended Mount St. Vincent College in Riverdale, New York.

An accomplished musician, she studied voice in New York under the tuteliege of Louis Shallioff, performing in numerous vocal concerts throughout New England and entertaining many with her lyric soprano voice.

In 1953 she married the late Richard J. Falvey, a Yale man and the Assistant Vice President of the Second National Bank. Together they resided in the Spring Glen section of Hamden for many years and were members of the High Lane Club, the Quinnipiac Club and the Graduate Club.

She was employed by the Hamden Board of Education and was a member of the New Haven Women's Club, president of the St. Rita's Ladies Guild and volunteered as a docent at the Jonathan Dickerman House in Hamden.

She is survived by her loving sons, R. Brian (Debra) Falvey of North Branford and Edward (Susan) Falvey of Orange, and her beloved grandchildren Meredith, Caroline, Brendan and Joseph.

Her funeral cortege will leave Sisk Brothers this morning (Friday, July 6) at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at St. Rita's Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford.
