Hamden Obituaries: George Burton Peet, 83

George is a proud Navy Veteran of WWII and the Korean War, having joined the service at the age of 17. He was a member of Volunteer Co. 7 in Hamden for 62 years.



George Burton Peet, 83, lifelong resident of Hamden, passed away in his home on Dec. 27, 2013 surrounded by his family.

He was born in New Haven on July 6, 1930 to the late George and Catherine Bushnell Peet.

George leaves to remember him, his adoring wife of 55 years, Charlotte McLean Peet; children George Burton Peet, Jr. of North Stonington, Kimberly Peet of North Stonington, and George Giles Peet of Hamden; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his sister Lorayn Hooghkirk.

Friends may visit with his family on Thursday, Jan. 2 at Beecher & Bennett, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden from 6 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service celebrating George’s life will be held that same evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home followed by Military Honors.
