Hamden Obituaries: Mattie L. Alston, 74

Mattie L. (Hester) Alston, 74, of Putnam Ave., Hamden, departed this life on Dec. 10, 2013 surrounded her family.

She was born to the late Willie and Mildred (Stone) Hester on Oct. 23, 1939 in Durham, NC.

Mattie had a passion for traveling and was a life-loving, generous and happy person. She was employed at Pratt and Whitney as an Inspector for U.S. Navy and Air Force products. Mattie retired after 30 years of service. Her charismatic and beautiful spirit will never be forgotten.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 55 years, Stephen Alston; sons, Stephen Jr. of FL, Jeffrey of New Haven; brothers, Robert Hester of NC, James Hester of MN; sisters, Mary Castillio of MD, Anna Mae Hester of MN; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by brothers; Willie, Lathan and Richard Hester, Edgar Lewis and Bobbie Nelson.

A celebration of her life will be held Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion 7th Day Adventist Church. Calling hours will be at the church on Monday from 9-11 a.m. Interment will take place at Beaverdale Memorial Park.
