Hamden Obituaries: Philippa DeGrand, 76

Philippa was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to her roses. She enjoyed family vacations in Chatham, MA and weekends in Vermont.



Philippa L. Piontek DeGrand, 76, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Dec. 6, 2013 at CT Hospice in Branford.

Philippa was born in New Haven on Dec. 13, 1936, a daughter of the late Philip & Helen Taycotric Piontek.

She is survived by her daughters, Leslie (Jack) Stafford of Falmouth, MA and Stacy (Raymond) Gabrielle of North Haven; her son Stephen DeGrand HPD of Hamden; beloved nana to Caroline Gabrielle and Emilee DeGrand; her sisters Maria Cannon of Norwich, VT & Helena Larese of Wallingford and a loving aunt of several nieces & nephews.

Philippa was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to her roses. She enjoyed family vacations in Chatham, MA and weekends in Vermont.

Philippa graduated from Cross High School in New Haven and worked for many years as a manager at the former Edward Malley Dept. Store, and was later employed and retired from Bristol-Myers in Wallingford.

Her children would like to thank the nurses and staff at CT Hospice in Branford for their compassionate care.

A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Stanislaus Church, New Haven. Interment will also be private. Arrangements are in care of Beecher and Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden.
