Hamden Obituaries: William Mooney, Sr., 87

A gentle soul with a dry sense of humor, he will be missed by all in his family, but remain in our thoughts and hearts.

William Patrick Mooney, Sr. (Bill), 87, of Hamden, passed away on Dec. 14, 2013 in Branford, of natural causes.

He was born on Sept. 16, 1926 in New Haven to Mary (Cuskelly) and Francis Mooney, and was pre-deceased by brothers Francis and John Mooney.

Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Roberta (Flynn) Mooney, also of Hamden.

He retired in 1981 after 30 years with the Atlantic Richfield Oil Co. as a dispatcher. He was a Navy veteran of both WW II and the Korean War. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, New York Giants and loved to golf.

A gentle soul with a dry sense of humor, he will be missed by all in his family, but remain in our thoughts and hearts.

Aside from his wife, he is survived by his children William (Lori Martin) Mooney Jr., of New Haven, Kathleen (Michael) Leonard of Tucson, AZ, Anne Giulietti of Madison, and Francis (Renee) Mooney of Hamden. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and his dear friend and golfing partner, Roger Simonello.

Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 9 – 11 a.m. at the B. C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford. A Memorial service will follow the calling hours at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
