In Memoriam: Alfred A. Pellegrini, 96

The veteran of WWII served for almost 4 years in the European Theater and received four battle stars.

Alfred A. Pellegrini, 96, of 35 Hamden Hills Dr., Hamden, formerly of Furman Rd., Hamden, died July 18, 2012 at St. Raphael's Hospital after a brief illness.

He was the widow of Mary Eleanor Matteo Pellegrini.

Fred was born in Hamden, Nov. 6, 1915, the son of the late Frederico and Anna Peroni Pellegrini, and was employed at High Standard of Hamden for 30 years and Mossberg & Son for 3 years prior to retiring in 1980.

Keeping busy after retiring, he worked for the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home for many years, assisted with his wife of 63 years, and could often be found in the library at Hamden Hills, where he enjoyed reading.

He was an Army Veteran of WWII, serving for almost 4 years in the European Theater and received 4 battle stars. He was past commander of Post 150, American Legion.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Marie Ann) Sweeney of Middlebury, sons, Frederick R. (Laura) Pellegrini of Wallingford and James M. (Sue) Pellegrini of Mt. Marion, NY., four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers Julius, Gene, Carl and Andrew Pellegrini.

His funeral was Friday at 10:30 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at St. John the Baptist Church, New Haven, at 11 o'clock. Interment was in Beaverdale Memorial Cemetery.
