Margaret Alice Delehanty, 86

Alice was a devout Catholic who attended Mass on a daily basis and even during her illness watched Mass on television.

Margaret Alice Delehanty, 86, died Dec. 19, 2012 in Stratford.

Alice grew up and lived in West Haven for most of her life before moving to Hamden.

She is survived by nephews Arthur F. Keating and his wife Jeanne of Shelton and Thomas Keating and his wife Paula of Seymour, cousins Robert Shannon of Stratford and John Shalvoy of Fairfield, as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews and special traveling companion, Arleen Olesky.

She was predeceased by her sister Mary I. Keating and brother in law Arthur D. Keating.

Alice spent 40 years in the West Haven School System as a teacher and a guidance counselor at Bailey Jr. High, West Haven High School and Gionotti. She was a member of New Haven Women's Club, the Ten Pus 5 Club (which is a group of women with ties to Washington School in West Haven), volunteered at the Hospital of St. Raphael and the Shubert Theater.

Alice was a devout Catholic who attended Mass on a daily basis and even during her illness watched Mass on television and said her daily prayers. She loved to travel and chaperoned many of West Havens High School trips. In her retirement years she enjoyed the winter months in Florida and was an avid New York Yankee and UCONN Women's Basketball fan.

She was a graduate of West Haven High School, Albertus Magnus College, Cum Laude and received her Master's and 6th year degree from Fairfield University.

Her funeral will leave from Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden Saturday at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
