Obituary: Richard D. Maher Sr. Dies at 55

Has children and grandchildren that live in Naugatuck.

 

Mr. Richard D. Maher, Sr., 55, of Hamden, passed away Sunday afternoon April 22, 2012 at the Bridgeport Hospital.

Mr. Maher was born in Bridgeport, a son of the late Phillip and Martha (Dalton) Maher and was educated in the Bridgeport School system. He was a graduate of Bunnell High School, Class of 1974. He was employed in the Concrete Restoration field prior to his illness and had a number of hobbies, including, hunting, fishing, and auto racing. He was an avid Jets fan. His greatest interest was spending time with is grandchildren.

He is survived by his companion, Anne Scott of Hamden and his former wife, Judith Brown of Naugatuck; one son, Richard D. Maher, Jr. of Naugatuck; one daughter, Marlene Maher of Naugatuck; one brother, James Maher of Shelton and 2 granddaughters, Lilyanne and Alessandra and a special little friend Jullian. He was predeceased by a half-brother Phillip Maher.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bridgeport Hospital and VITAS Hospice of Fairfield for their loving care and compassion show to Rich during his illness. In Rich’s own words, “Carry On”.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday April 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St.  Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Cross St. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VITAS Hospice, 99 Hawley Suite 1204, Lane, 2nd Floor, Stratford, CT. 06614.
