Desperate Condition of Fire Stations

I have recently learned that two fire stations in the Town are essentially without proper central heating systems.  This condition exists at the Ridge Road Fire Station as well as the Circular Avenue Fire Station.  The Ridge Hill Station is basically being heated on a day to day basis by propane and electric heaters at outrageously high costs.  The Circular Avenue Fire Station given it's condition as one of the oldest fire stations in the Town, is leaking heat through it's outdated windows and insulation.  The old station is requiring asbestos abatement in order to complete the necessary repairs, which the town has yet to begin.
Corrective action needs to be taken with regard to both of these situations immediately.  This is just another example of irresponsible management within the Town.  Why is the new police station requires thick granite counters and benches in the reception area?  Was this expense truly needed to update the police station?  I can only imagine the extravagance the rest of the structure enjoyed, beyond public view.  This financial irresponsibleness has got to stop.  Who is responsible for overseeing the condition of the Fire Stations?  And who is responsible for recommending costly granite “furniture” in the reception area of the police station?  Completely outrageous!  Let’s start making our Town officials accountable for their irresponsible spending of our hard earned tax dollars.   Sincerely, Anne Fitzgerald
