Another Robbery on the Farmington Canal

This time a woman walking on the trail was approached by a group of teens, one of whom stole her cellphone, according to police.

Another attempted robbery on the Farmington Canal has led to the arrest of another teenager, this one from New Haven, according to police.

The incident happened on Wednesday at about 6 p.m., on the trail behind the 900 block of Dixwell Avenue, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith, when a 35 year-old New Haven resident was approached by a group of teens on bicycles. 

"One of the teens, while engaging her in conversation, grabbed her cell phone and fled northbound," Smith said. "Moments later Officer Bryan Kelly observed the suspect in the vicinity of Hamden Park Drive. He detained the teen after a brief pursuit."

The 17-year-old New Haven resident was charged with third-degree robbery, fifth-degree larceny and interfering with a police officer. The boy was released to his mother and is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on Aug. 21.
