Armed Robbery Reported in Hamden McDonald's Parking Lot

A man had to relinquish his cell phone to an armed man who had requested directions, according to police.

Hamden Police are looking for two men they say robbed a man of his cellphone at gunpoint Thursday night in the parking lot of McDonald's in the Hamden Mart.

At about 7:15 p.m. police got the report of an armed street robbery at the restaurant at 2320 Dixwell Ave., according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

There, the 22-year-old victim told police that he was approached by two men, described as Hispanic and in their 20s, who were in an older silver Jeep Cherokee.

The men asked the victim for directions, Smith said, and when the victim got his cell phone out to look up the location, the driver of the Cherokee pulled a handgun and demanded the phone.

The men then took off, heading south on Dixwell Avenue, Smith said. Police searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects, he said.
