Detectives have identified a suspect in the murder of a Deep River man who was found dead Thursday in a motel room on East Main Street.
An arrest warrant for Leshanda Gregory, 26, was issued Monday, regarding the murder of Byron C. McDade, 41, according to the New Haven Register and several other media outlets.
Gregory was identified as McDade’s companion in a video from a local business, taken hours before McDade died at the Branford Motel.
"Once we located her, our detectives obtained a confession, directly linking her to Mr. McDade's death," Detective Lt. Arthur Kohloff said in a statement Monday, according to NBC Connecticut.
Gregory’s warrant and pending arrest are for murder, third-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny.
Gregory is currently being held on unrelated probation violation-related charges, the Register reported. Middleton police told the Register she was taken into custody Friday from a Main Street apartment in Middleton.
Police told the Register they found 29 bags of heroin in that apartment.“I am hopeful that the diligence of our investigative team, surrounded by the professional assistance we received from a number of other state and local agencies will bring some level of conclusion to the family of Mr. McDade during this time of significant loss of a family member,” said Branford Police Chief Kevin Halloran in a statement.
