A car dealer who was arrested this week for claims he is also a victim of theft.
According to an article by the New Haven Register, David Taylor, 52, of Branford, owner of Bernardo Motors on State Street in Hamden, said he would have paid off the owner of the car, Timothy Costa of Bristol, sooner, but an employee of the dealership embezzled the money from the sale.
Hamden police charged Taylor with first degree larceny, first degree forgery and misapplication of property. He reportedly sold the car, gave the purchaser a false registration and deposited the proceeds into his own bank account.
But Taylor said the problem started with the embezzlement, forcing him to pay off the loan on the car with his own money.
