A Hamden man is facing drug charges after he was allegedly found with marijuana after a motor vehicle stop near Hamden Middle School.
John Higgins, 19, of 51 Spring Glen Terr., Hamden, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.
On Friday at about 3:30 p.m. Officer Bryan Kelly saw a car being driven erratically in the area of Dixwell and Evergreen avenues, Smith said. Kelly pulled the car over on Dixwell Avenue near Sanford Street, he said.
When he got near the vehicle, Kelly recognized "a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside," Smith said. Searching the vehicle led to the discovery of 29 grams of marijuana, Smith said.
Higgins was released after posting $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on January 25.
