Cops Looking for Info on Shooting

The Hamden Police Department's Major Crime unit is investigating a shooting Saturday night that sent one man to the hospital.

 

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting that took place Saturday night at about 10:40 p.m. in the area of 42 Warner Street.

"Upon arrival, members of the Patrol Division located a male suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso," Police Chief Thomas Wydra said in a release Sunday.  "The victim was transported to an area hospital for further medical treatment.  An investigation was immediately launched, with members of the Major Crimes and Crime Scene Units assuming a lead role."

Saturday night neighbors gathered outside their homes as police closed off the road to investigate. Several said that the victim was a teenager who was shot in the chest and the stomach.

A detective said that the victim was in stable condition Sunday afternoon but did not have his name.

Wydra said that shortly after the shooting, which took place a short distance from Southern Connecticut State University by Fitch Street, the suspect was seen running from the scene toward Bowen Street.
