An elderly woman was seriously hurt Sunday afternoon after she fell while walking the Farmington Canal Greenway about 2:45 p.m., according to police.
The 85-year-old women fall on a portion of the trail near Dixwell Avenue, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.
The woman apparently fell and struck her head, Smith said. Three other women in the area at the time "rushed to the aid of the injured woman and provided medical assistance," Smith said.
When police arrived, the woman was lying on the ground bleeding profusely from the head, Smith said. She was treated at the scene by Hamden Fire Rescue and was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Smith said, where she is listed in critical condition.
