Fight with Restaurant Employees Leads to Gun, Drug Charges for New Haven Man

A New Haven man is facing charges after police found a handgun and drugs in his car after he got into a fight with employees at a Hamden pizza shop, according to police.

Officer Jennifer King of the Hamden Police Department saw a disturbance going on in the parking lot of Slice Pizza at 141 Arch St. shortly after midnight last Thursday, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

Officers found that employees at the store had asked Keerome Lawrence, 23, of 92 Elizabeth St., New Haven, to leave the restaurant because he was causing trouble, Smith said. Lawrence then began fighting with employees, Smith said, inflicting eye and neck injuries on the employees.

During the investigation, officers searched Lawrence's car, where they found a loaded .380 Ruger firearm and 70.2 grams of marijuana that was packaged for sale, Smith said.

Lawrence was charged with illegal possession of a firearm under the influence, sale of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, third-degree assault and breach of peace.

He posted $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on May 23.
