For the Second Time, Hamden Man Accused of Stabbing Wife

Just a month off probation, a Hamden man is again under arrest after he allegedly attacked his wife Thursday night, according to police.

A Hamden man is facing charges for the second time in three years for allegedly stabbing his wife, according to police.

At about 9 p.m. Thursday night police got the report of a domestic dispute that involved a knife at the home of Vincent Tyler, 43, of 72 Third St., Hamden, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

When officers arrived they found Tyler's wife bleeding from multiple stab wounds to the back and head, Smith said, and the woman told police that she had gotten into an argument with Tyler and he had tried to force her to get into a car with him.

When she resisted, Tyler allegedly hit her in the face and arm with a metal object, Smith said, and then stabbed her in the back, head and neck.

Her son, who was about a block away, heard her screaming, Smith said, and ran to the house to help her. Tyler then bit him in the ear, kicked him and "smashed his head off the ground," Smith said.

Both Tyler's wife and her son were treated at the scene by Hamden Fire Rescue and then taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Smith said. Their conditions weren't known Friday, he said.

Meanwhile, Tyler fled the scene in his car with his 5-year-old daughter, Smith said. Connecticut State Police pulled him over a short time later on Route 8 in Bridgeport, he said.

Tyler was charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor and criminal attempt to commit second-degree kidnapping. He was held in lieu of $500,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Meriden Superior Court today.

Tyler also was charged with first-degree assault on Dec. 26, 2010 for allegedly stabbed his wife in the buttocks, Smith said. According to the state Judicial website, in May of 2011 Tyler was found guilty of second-degree threatening and first-degree assault and sentenced to eight years in prison suspended after nine months and ordered on probation for two years, which would have been up last month.
