Four Boys Found Safe at Sleeping Giant

The four, missing for more than an hour, were found walking on one of the park's main trails, according to police.

For more than an hour Tuesday afternoon, Hamden Police, Hamden Fire, Quinnipiac University Public Safety and state Department of Environmental Protection officials searched Sleeping Giant State Park for four young boys were separated from their mothers, according to police.

The boys, two sets of brothers between the ages of 7 and 10, were reported missing at about 12:45 p.m., according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. 

"Hamden Police quickly surrounded the park and began an extensive search," Smith said. "A command center was established at the base of the park."

Rescue crews located the boys walking on one of the park's main trails after searching for more than an hour, Smith said. There were no injuries, he said.

"The Hamden Police Department would like to thank all of the individuals, which included several hikers, for their participation in the search," Smith said.
