The University of New Haven (UNH) West Haven branch went on lockdown Tuesday afternoon for reports of a possible armed man on campus.
The university sent out an emergency message on their Twitter account just before 1 p.m. Tuesday telling students to “shelter in place [all caps] and await further instructions.”
The Tweet stated that the West Haven Police Department was searching for “an Asian male near South Campus with what appears to be a rifle.”
The New Haven Register is reporting that police might have a suspect in custody but the shelter in place order has yet to be lifted.
Nearby elementary schools — Forest Elementary and Carrigan Intermediate — have also been advised to shelter in place, according to WFSB, and Nortre Dame High School in West Haven was on lockdown.
