Hamden Man Killed in State Street Accident Tuesday

The accident closed a portion of State Street for about two hours Tuesday morning, according to police.

A Hamden man lost his life Tuesday morning after an accident in the area of 2260 State Street at about 8:45 a.m.

Joseph Manacchio, 36, of Hamden, was driving northbound on State Street when his car crossed the double line and his a car traveling southbound, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

Hamden Fire Department personnel had to extricate both Manacchio and the driver of the other vehicle, a 56-year-old Ansonia resident, from the vehicles, Smith said.

Manacchio was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Smith said. The Ansonia resident was also taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he said.

State Street, between London Drive and Fernwood Road was closed for about two hours, Smith said.

Officer Stephen DeGrand of the Hamden Police Department Traffic Division is conducting the investigation. Witnesses’ are asked to contact DeGrand at 203-230-4030.
