Hamden Cops: New Haven Man Tried to Rob, Fight and Chase Couple With a Stick

New Haven man was a one man crime spree.

An attempted robbery at an ATM, chasing the alleged victims with a stick, breaking a glass window, and then a fight breaking out inside Slyce Pizza are all alleged to have been initiated by one man, Hamden police say in a press release.

Last Saturday, police responded to the area of Arch and Fitch streets on the report of a fight in progress.

Moments later, officers observed an individual, who was later identified as Kenneth McKay, fighting the male victim inside of Slyce Pizza, police said. McKay was charged.

Investigation revealed that a Hamden couple were using the ATM at Go On Gas, 144 Arch Street, when McKay approached them and allegedly demanded money, police said.

Further investigation revealed that McKay attempted to allegedly steal an undisclosed amount of money from the female victim, police said. McKay then chased the couple with a stick.

As the couple fled into Slyce Pizza, a female employee attempted to stop him at the front door, police said. McKay “charged through her” causing her face to strike the glass door, breaking it, police said.

Hamden Police arrested Kenneth McKay, 31, of 71 Elizabeth Street in New Haven. He was charged with criminal attempt to commit robbery in the third-degree, third-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief and breach of peace. McKay is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Meriden on June 27.
