Hamden Man, 27, ID'd as Orange Drowning Victim

The Orange Police Department and the Office of the State Medical Examiner have identified the victim found in Lake Wepawaug in Orange on Saturday as Vaughn Porteous, 27, of Hamden.

Police said they believe Porteous was involved in a motor vehicle accident on the Merritt Parkway at the Orange rest stop on March 19, and he reportedly left the scene prior to police arrival.

He was reported missing by family members on April 1, 2014. His body was discovered in the lake on April 12.

The State's Medical Examiner has ruled the death an accidental drowning. Police said the investigation will remain open pending toxicology results, which can take several weeks.
