Hamden Man Charged with Shooting Up House

The house on Park Avenue was vacant at the time of the incident, according to police.

 

A Hamden man turned himself into police last week on a warrant charging that he shot up a vacant home in his neighborhood.

got a report of criminal mischief at a home at 75 Park Ave., on the morning of Dec. 22, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

When officers arrived at the house, which was vacant, they found six bullet holes in the exterior siding of the house, Smith said. Inside, there was more damage, he said, including bullet holes in walls and in the refrigerator.

After Hamden Police detectives conducted an investigation, they submitted an warrant to the court for the arrest of Michael Coughlin, 30, of 69 Park Ave., Smith said.

On Jan. 12 Coughlin turned himself in to police custody, Smith said, and was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree criminal mischief.

Coughlin was released on a written promise to appear in court and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 25.
