Hamden Man Charged with St. Patrick's Day Assault

Allegedly assaulted two people with a crow bar, according to police.

 

A Hamden man was arrested Thursday for a St. Patrick's Day assault tht injured two people.

The incident occurred on March 17 at about 11 p.m. at 3342 Whitney Ave., according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

Police learned that Edward Cogan, 21, of 139 Laura Rd., approached the 25-year-old resident of that address with a crow bar and started assaulting them, Smith said. 

"A friend of the victim, a 20 year-old Hamden resident, intervened. Cogan then allegedly turned his attention onto him and assaulted him repeatedly," Smith said. "He was subsequently transported to a local hospital with a head injury."

Officer Patrick McCue led the investigation and appliced for an arrest warrant for Cogan, which was signed by the court. On Thursday he was arrested and charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, third-degree assault and breach of peace.

Cogan was released on a written promise to appear in Meriden Superior Court on May 1.
