Hamden Police Dog Sniffs Out Suspected Burglar Hiding in Closet

A Hamden police dog helped sniff out a suspected burglar and police found him hiding in a closet.

Cory Bernardo, 25, of 1400 Dixwell Ave., was discovered by the dog hiding in the master bedroom of a Malcolm St. home after police responded to a report of a burglary Monday morning, according to a police press release.

When police arrived at the scene, officers observed damage to a window in the rear of the house. They determined that someone had forcibly entered the residence, according to the release.

Police say investigation revealed that Bernardo had allegedly rummaged through the residents' personal belongings.

Bernardo was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, criminal impersonation and interfering with an officer.
