Hamden Police: Dozens of Bags of Crack Pop Up During Motor Vehicle Stop

When he stopped the car, the officer smelled burning pot. He found much more.

When Officer Shawn Nutcher of the Hamden Police Department stopped an unregistered motor vehicle being driven near the intersection of Goodrich Street and Dixwell Avenue Wednesday night, he reportedly smelled pot coming from the car.

But searching the car, the passenger had much more than just marijuana, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. She had 29 bags of crack cocaine.

Now the passenger, Mildred Mouzon, 32, of 37 Harding Place, New Haven, is facing charges of possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell. She posted $5,000.00 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 30.

Mouzon also was arrested in April 2012 by New Haven Police on breach of peace and risk of injury charges, according to the state Judicial Website.

The driver of the car, Robert Leggett, 57, of 68 Warner St., Hamden, also was charged with operating while under suspension and with no insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle, Smith said.
