Hamden Police Confirm 'Active Shooter' Report Was a Hoax

The investigation will continue.

Hamden police are investigating the possibility that reports of shots fired at a home on Thomas Street was a hoax, according to multiple reports.

An emergency call was received by police that someone had shot his mother and was planning to hurt more people as well as himself at a home on Thomas Street just before 11 a.m., according to WFSB.com.

Officers swarmed the residence with guns drawn and when they entered, there were only teenagers inside and no parents were home, police told WFSB.

Police Chief Thomas Wydra told the New Haven Register that the call appears to be a hoax and the investigation continues. He also said it is unclear if the call came from the home on Thomas Street.

According to WFSB, there have been many incidents of "swatting" in Connecticut recently where hoax calls are being done remotely using a computer.

Police told WFSB they are not sure if that is the case in the incident in Hamden, but they are investigating that possibility
