Hamden Police Investigating Mob Attack

A man was hospitalized after seven men beat him after trying to rob him, according to police.

Hamden Police are investigating the attack by seven men on a person who was walking in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Dudley Street shortly after midnight on Aug. 1.

Police got the report of a person at Yale New Haven Hospital's St. Raphael Campus who had been the victim of an aggravated assault, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

The 30-year-old victim told police that he was in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Dudley Street when seven or eight men on bicycles approached him, Smith said.

They demanded money, Smith said, and when the victim refused, they attacked.

"The victim ran into New Haven to elude them. He then realized that he had sustained a large, deep laceration to his hand and wrist area," Smith said in a release Friday. "It appears that the injury was caused by a sharp instrument. The victim was transported to the hospital by family members."
