Hamden Police Searching for Man with Gun

Hamden Police are searching for a man with a gun that they say approached someone at a local gas station.

The incident happened Tuesday night at about 10:30 p.m. at the Hess Gas Station at 1126 Dixwell Ave., according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

Officers found that a 25-year-old man was at the station paying for his gas purchase when another man approached him "wielding a firearm," Smith said in a release Wednesday.

"The customer promptly ran from the area, tripping over the gas pumps," Smith said. "He then entered another customer’s motor vehicle for safety."

Several officers searched the area for the suspect but didn't find anything, Smith said. The suspect is described as light-skinned black male wearing a white shirt and bandana, according to Smith. A silver-colored firearm was displayed, he said.
