Hiker Stuck on Sleeping Giant Overnight Rescued Tuesday

The man spent a chilly night on the mountain as temperatures dipped to 30 degrees Monday night.

A man who was stranded Monday at Sleeping Giant State Park spent a chilly night on the mountain before being rescued Tuesday, according to reports.

State Department of Energy and Environmental officers, aided by the Hamden Fire Rescue team, rescued the person who was apparently got stuck on a trail at the park and couldn't find his way down the mountain.

The DEEP lead the rescue, according to Hamden Fire Battalion Chief Don LaBanca.

"We assisted the DEEP in looking for someone up there," he said "We came in after they had already made contact with the individual."

Rescue workers were sent up the Tower Trail near the Blue Trail with a 6-wheel ATV to rescue the man, LaBanca said.

He didn't appear to be seriously injured once he was off the mountain and getting medical attention, LaBanca said.

According to the National Weather Service, lows Monday night into Tuesday morning were in the low 30s.
