A Bridgeport man is facing charges after he was allegedly caught in the act of robbing a Hamden jeweler.
Police got a report of a burglar alarm about 5 a.m. Thursday at Ruby’s Jeweler’s at 3056 Whitney Ave., according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith said.
When he arrived at the store, Officer Kelley Groleau saw a man inside standing behind a display counter, Smith said. The man then took off through a rear door, he said.
"Moments later, Officers Joseph Venditto, Enrique Rivera-Rodriguez and Andrew Pfeiffer located Alex Alicea hiding in nearby bushes," Smith said. Alicea was promptly arrested after a short foot pursuit. Officers found several pieces of jewelry in his possession."
Alex Alicea, 52, of 237 Helen St., Bridgeport, was charged with first-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, fourth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief. He was held in lieu of $50,000 bond and arraigned in Meriden Superior Court later in the day, Smith said.
