A Hamden man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly burning his teenage girlfriend with a lit cigarette, according to police.
The girlfriend, a West Haven resident, met with Officer Michael Pantera Tuesday to report the assault, Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith said.
"The 17 year-old victim advised police that at approximately 3 a.m. she was involved in a verbal altercation with her boyfriend, Nicholas Vermiglio Jr," Smith said in a release. "The argument progressed into a physical altercation, in which Vermiglio allegedly burned her chest with a lit cigarette, punched her several times and pulled her hair."
When she got to Vermiglio's house, he hit her in the leg with a metal object and stabbed her with car keys, Smith said. Officers saw the burns and scars on her body, he said, and the damage to several personal items.
Vermiglio, 20, of 51 Hideaway Lane, was charged with second-degree assault. He posted $1,000 bond and was arraigned Wednesday in Meriden Superior Court.
