A New Haven man was picked up by police last week on a warrant charging that his is responsible for an armed street robbery that happened on July 8 on Hepburn Road.
On that day a woman was robbed as she got into her car parked in the driveway, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. The man, identified as Jarelle Gibbs, 19, of 4A Greenwood Street, New Haven, had a gun and stole her pocketbook Smith said.
About two hours after the robbery, the victim’s credit card was used at Target in Orange, Smith said, and video surveillance captured the suspect and the fraudulent transaction.
Detective Brian Stewart investigated the incident and submitted an arrest warrant application to the court for Gibbs. On Wednesday, Hamden Police arrested Gibbs at Meriden Superior Court, where he was appearing on unrelated charges.
Gibbs was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny and two counts of illegal use of a credit card. He was held in lieu of $200,000 court ordered bond and arraigned in Meriden Superior Court later in the day.
