New Haven Man Charged With Car Break-Ins

He was allegedly found in a State Street parking lot with items stolen out of other cars in the same lot, according to police.

 

A New Haven man was arrested early Friday morning after police found items in his car that had allegedly been stolen out of other vehicles.

At about 1:15 a.m. Friday Hamden Police got a report of suspicious activity in the parking lot at 2390 State St., according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

When Officer Eric Hallstrom arrived at the scene he saw a man hiding items in his car, Smith said. Hallstrom found that the man, identified as Anderson Santos, 29, of 187 Forbes Avenue, New Haven, has stolen the items from other cars parked in the lot, Smith said.

"Officers recovered electronic equipment, tools and jewelry," Smith said. "Santos was promptly arrested. He was in the possession of aglass break hammer."

Santos was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal trespass. He was held in lieu of $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Dec. 7.
