Christmas Eve turned violent for a New Haven woman, who is charged with punching another woman who police say is pregnant in the face.
At about 5:30 p.m. police responded to the report of an assault at WalMart at 2300 Dixwell Ave., according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.
Officers found a 30-year-old female pregnant customer who told police that she had just been punched in the face by another woman while she was shopping with family members, Smith said.
The victim knew the suspect, Smith said. She was injured in the mouth and jaw and was taken to the hospital by family members.
A short time later officers found the suspect walking in the area of Putnam Avenue, Smith said.
Shanea Hylton, 28, of 320 Quinnipiac Ave., New Haven, was charged with Assault on a Pregnant Person, Breach of Peace and Interfering With a Police Officer.
Hylton was released after posting $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 7.
Officer Michael Cirillo conducted the investigation, Smith said.
