The co-owner of a Dixwell Avenue pawn shop was injured Wednesday evening when two people apparently broke into the store in an attempt to rob it, according to police.
Hamden Police received a call at about 6:30 p.m. of a report of a robbery at Pawn Paradise at 1194 Dixwell Ave., according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.
When officers arrived, they found the 40-year-old female co-owenr of the shop lying on the floor of the cash room, Smith said. Hamden Fire Rescue also responded and treated the woman, who was then taken to Yale-New Haven Hsopital with an elbow injury, Smith said.
The victim told police that she heard a knock on the back door of the shop and when she opened it, two people came in and pushed her, Smith said. The two men had their faces covered so she couldn't see them, she told police, and she was able to activate the shop's panic button.
It's not known if the suspects were able to take anything from the store.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Angelo DeLieto of the Hamden Police Department Detective Division at 203-230-4040.
