Winston Brightly, 43, turned himself in to the Hamden Police Department on Monday after learning there was an arrest warrant charging him in connection with a July 20 report of shots fired on West Helen Street.
Brightly, a resident of 65 West Helen St., had gotten into a verbal argument with a neighbor, at which point he then allegedly fired several shots into the air from his 9mm handgun, police said.
Officers responded to the area after getting a 911 call, however Brightly fled the area before police could get there. The officers recovered numerous shell casings from the scene.
Officer Tim Brown conducted an investigation which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Brightly.Brightly was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment in the first degree and breach of peace. He was detained on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Sept. 4.
