A Bridgeport man allegedly broke into a Whitney Avenue home on Saturday morning, robbed the handicapped resident of her handbag and then was caught waling down the road with the bag, according to police.
The incident happened at about 10 a.m. Saturday, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.
The man, identified as Leeander Brown, 46, of Chestnut St., Bridgeport, allegedly entered the home through a rear door, Smith said, and found inside the 60-year-old wheelchair-bound woman.
Brown then stole the woman's purse and fled on foot on Whitney Avenue, Smith said.
Officer Enrique Rivera-Rodriguez was responding to the report of the burglary when he saw Brown with the handbag walking southbound on Whitney Avenue, Smith said.
Brown was charged with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny. He was held in lieu of $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on
