A Hamden man is facing multiple charges after he stole a gun from a relative's home in Milford, police said.

Samuel Mitchell, 25, of Greenway Street in Hamden, was charged March 4 with third-degree burglary, theft of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, third-degree larceny and second-degree failure to appear in court.

According to Milford Police, the department received a complaint that a burglary occurred at a Benjamin Heights Drive home on Dec. 8.

An investigation revealed that Mitchell forced his way into his relative's home and took a gun, as well as other personal items of value.

Police report they were able to recover all of the stolen items at Mitchell's residence in Hamden.

In addition, a computer check found that the New Haven Police Department had an outstanding arrest warrant for Mitchell's arrest for failure to appear in court on Feb. 4.

He was held on a bond of $25,495.
