Police Investigate Street Robbery

An East Haven woman lost her purse to a man who came up to her early Thursday morning and grabbed it, according to police.

 

Police are investigating an early morning robbery Thursday near Southern Connecticut State University.

At about 1 a.m. Thursday morning a 25-year-old East Haven woman was accousted by a man, described as a black male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

The woman, who was standing in the parking lot of Slice Pizza at the intersection of Arch Street and Fairview Avenue, was approached by the man, who grabbed her purse, Smith said.

The two struggled, and the man was able to get the purse from her before he took off, Smith said. There was several hundred dollars in the bag, as well as credit cards, he said.

Officer Jennifer King conducted the initial investigation, Smith said, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Hamden Police Department at 203-230-4000.
