Police: Owner of Care Facility Stole from Residents

Woodbridge woman charged with stealing money from two residents of the residential care facility she owns and manages.

The owner and manager of a Hamden residential care facility stole money from two of its residents, according to police.

In August, police responded to two larceny complaints at Garden View Manor, a residential care facility that houses 16 residents at 1840 State St. in Hamden, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

Officers investigating found that owner and manager Susan Taylor, 62, of 21 Manila Ave., Woodbridge, used a resident’s debit card to make unauthorized withdrawals totaling $1,200, Smith said.

Taylor also allegedly stole a personal check from a second resident and forged the signature to steal $130 in cash.

Detective John Marks submitted two arrest warrant applications to the court which were subsequently approved, Smith said, and on Dec. 3 Taylor turned herself into police.

Taylor was charged with fourth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, third-degree forgery, two counts of issuing a bad check, auto teller fraud and identification theft.

Taylor was released on a promise to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Dec. 17.
