Police Seek Dog That Bit Man Helping Turtle Cross the Street
Good Samaritan taken to hospital with serious bite wounds.
The Hamden Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a dog that bit a 54-year-old man who was helping a turtle cross the street.
The unidentified man, a Hamden resident, suffered serious bite wounds to the leg and forearm area, according to a police press release.
Police said the man was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital by American Medical Response.
Hamden police responded to the area of Evergreen Avenue and Whitney Avenue on the report of a dog bite at about 4:30 p.m. on July 15.
Investigation revealed that the man was traveling on Evergreen Avenue, at which time he observed a large turtle crossing the roadway, according to the press release. He subsequently stopped his vehicle and attempted to move the turtle from the street. Police say the man was then attacked by a roaming canine.

The Hamden Police Department Animal Control Division is attempting to identify the attacking canine. It is described as a "black-colored, long haired Labrador." The canine was wearing a collar.
