Police: TJ Maxx Employee Stabbed by Acquaintance

The victim was at work Monday when the suspect came in, argued with him and stabbed him in the leg, according to police.

A Hamden man is facing charges after fight Monday between a TJ Maxx employee and an acquaintence ended in a stabbing.

Hamden Police got a report of a stabbing at about 1:15 p.m. Monday at the store at 2335 Dixwell Ave., according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith

"Upon arrival, officers met with the stabbing victim, who is an employee," Smith said in a release on the incident. He had been stabbed in the leg, Smith said.

Hamden Fire Rescue responded and treated the victim before he was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with a non-life threatening wound, Smith said.

Police believe that the suspect, Carlos Burgos, 22, of 32 Lynmoor Place, Hamden, is an acquaintance of the victim, Smith said. Shortly after Burgos entered the store. he and the victim began arguing in the store’s bathroom, he said.

"The dispute turned physical," Smith said, "when Burgos removed a knife from his pocket and stabbed [the victim]."

Burgos was charged with second-degree assault and breach of peace. He was held in lieu of $40,000 bond, and is due to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 8.
