Rash of Home Invasions Hits Southern Hamden

Police received reports of four incidents between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Police are warning residents to keep doors and windows locked after three homes were entered Tuesday in southern Hamden.

"On April 30th Hamden Police responded to the report of three home invasions and one attempted home invasion that occurred in the southern section of town," police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith said in an email release Wednesday.

The incidents happened between  11 p.m. Monday night and 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, Smith said, at homes on Rosina Road, Welch Street, Rockwood Road and Victoria Court.

Police believe that two people entered three of the homes while the residents were sleeping and that in most of the incidents, the suspects entered the homes through first floor unlocked doors and windows, Smith said.

"On one occasion, entry was gained through a locked first floor window," Smith said. "Once inside, the individuals stole electronic equipment, computers, cell phones... during one of the home invasions, a motor vehicle was stolen."

Residents should make sure their homes are well lit and their doors and windows are locked, Smith said. Alarm systems are also a good idea, he said, and valuables should not be left in plain view.

Residents should report any suspicious activity to the Hamden Police Department at 203-230-4000 or 230-4040.
